Prices will be for stores in either Raleigh or Cary. These prices are only valid at the specific Triangle area stores that were checked that week, and prices may vary from store to store even within the same chain in the same town. To verify the price at your store, head to the website or the app.

The only time a non-store brand product was selected was when a store brand item was not available or a name brand item was a better price than the store brand. In that case, we selected the least expensive item. To get the best price each week at the stores you shop, make sure you scan your reward card or use your phone number linked to your reward card at checkout.

Keep in mind that some grocery stores have fuel rewards programs that allow you to save money on gas at their stations when you buy groceries, which can help you decrease overall living expenses even more. But the store has another tactic under its belt: It doesn't accept credit cards.

Oftentimes, processing credit cards can be expensive for a store, and by only accepting other forms of payment, WinCo doesn't have to pay that premium price. The upside? You don't need a membership to shop at WinCo like you do at stores like Costco and Sam's Club.

The downside is that you'll have to remember to bring a form of payment that's not a credit card. Ask any Texan what their favorite grocery stores are, and chances are that they'll mention H-E-B.

This chain has a cult following amongst citizens of the Lone Star State, and it's no wonder why. In addition to providing its customers with a wide array of top-notch products, the store also boasts relatively low prices compared to many other chains. When it comes to produce, H-E-B can offer much lower costs than many stores because it prioritizes working with local producers.

Since it's generally not shipping in produce from around the world, its transportation costs are significantly lower than those of many other grocery stores. This in turn lowers the cost of fruits and vegetables for customers, who keep coming back because of the solid prices.

This high rate of turnover makes the company money while helping its customers cut their grocery costs. The only downside is the fact that you won't find H-E-B in the other 49 states, though there are over 60 locations in Mexico.

However, if you're in Texas and you haven't yet checked out the popular chain, you need to shop there ASAP — it may just change your budget grocery game for the long haul. You're not going to find Food4Less everywhere — the company, which is owned by grocery magnate Kroger, only operates in three states Indiana, Illinois, and California.

But if you do happen to live near one of the chain's locations, you can benefit from the lower-than-average prices you'll find there. You'll want to take a look at the store's weekly ads because that's where you'll often find the very best deals.

Like a lot of discount stores, you'll have to bag your own groceries, but we think it's worth it for the lower cost.

A lot of the time, these cheaper stores don't offer pharmacies or household items like cleaning products, but you'll find these amenities and more at Food4Less, which makes it a great option for people who want to get all of their shopping done at one spot.

Is Food4Less the most luxurious place you've ever shopped for groceries? But it will get you out the door with a few bags of groceries for considerably less than you would pay at most grocery stores. Grocery Outlet is one of those stores that you have to shop at at least once if you love finding fantastic deals on groceries.

There, you'll find consistently low prices to help you cut your grocery budget for good. As the name suggests, this chain is an outlet. Basically, when a producer makes too much of a product that it can't otherwise sell, it contacts Grocery Outlet, which then buys the product for a reduced price.

That's how the store passes those savings on to you — it pays less for its products so you can too. Unlike some budget grocery chains, you'll find different products at every Grocery Outlet you go to, depending on what that particular store has access to.

Concerned you won't be able to find what you need at Grocery Outlet? Don't worry — the store also stocks fresh produce and most other supermarket staples so you'll always be able to find the essentials like eggs and milk. You're not going to find many grocery stores that offer prices lower than 99 Cents Only Stores.

When the company was started, everything was offered for only 99 cents. Of course, times have changed, and now, the name of the store is a slight misnomer — sometimes, you'll pay more than 99 cents for a product there and sometimes, you'll also pay less.

Still, you can almost guarantee that you are going to get a great deal when you shop at these stores, which are currently only found in four states. You can shop for produce here as well as a variety of other grocery products, although it can sometimes be difficult to find exactly what you're looking for.

On the bright side, it's kind of a treasure-hunting experience — you'll never know what you'll find for cheap when you set foot inside one of these stores. If you're the kind of person who's always on the hunt for a good deal, 99 Cents Only Stores undoubtedly make for an exciting shopping experience.

When you're pinching your pennies, going to a traditional grocery store may not be the most cost-effective way to buy groceries. Instead, heading to a dollar store like Family Dollar may just be the way to go.

So, a service fee may apply to each order you place. This fee covers a variety of operating costs, such as shopper operations, insurance, and background checks for shopping.

You can find fresh, high-quality food on the site. And, FreshDirect offers all your supermarket brand favorites as well. You can get tons of wholesale products on there, like groceries , household products, and health supplies.

Evaluating portable power pack batteries Testing to UL , the Standard for Portable Power Booster and portable power packs have been available for some time, but use is growing.

Helping support the safety of portable power To help ensure consumer safety, UL , the Standard for Portable Power Packs, 1st Edition was published on Oct. You do not need to be qualified as an electrician to carry out visual inspections.

Regular user checks and visual inspections can be a good method of maintaining portable electric equipment. For landlords maintaining legal requirements it is not compulsory for them to have all appliances tested, but they do need to show a "duty of care" and most letting agents recommend that a test certificate is obtained.

The earliest formal portable appliance testing and inspection of both electrical installations and high risk equipment was introduced in the UK in government housing estates. This was under the control of the Property Services Agency — prior to the Ministry of Public Building and Works. Extensive record-keeping was made into log-books and generally the equipment used was an insulation resistance tester, simple hand tools and visual inspection.

Evidence of testing was clearly visible to workers in the form of "passed", "tested for electrical safety" and "do not use after This early testing and inspection was done under a planned maintenance scheme and pre-dated both the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Electricity at Work Act In the UK there is no legal instrument that requires a sub-contractor to ensure that all tools and equipment are PAT inspected before bringing onto a site of work.

Neither is there any legal instrument which obliges the site owner to ensure third-party equipment is PAT inspected either by themselves or the equipment owner. The internal policies of many UK businesses and educational establishments make mistaken reference to PAT inspection being a legal requirement under the Electricity at Work Regulations, which is false.

Having such a policy is legitimate for internal reasons, but it is not underwritten by law, it is only their interpretation.

Therefore, it is not a legal requirement to have a PAT inspection sticker or certificate, the obligation is that equipment must be safe.

The HSE recommend policies use phrases such as "Equipment that is brought onto site for an event must be in a safe condition" and refrain from overzealous statements such as "must be PAT inspected" which can be restrictive without improving safety.

Overall it is safer if a competent person makes a visual inspection than if a layman merely observes the presence of a sticker. This can be done by hiring an external company to test all the electrical products in a business someone who has had some PAT training, either by an official qualification or by attending a health and safety course offered by some electrical health and safety companies or it can be done in-house by a competent person.

In a low-risk environment most dangerous defects can be found simply by checking the appliances for obvious signs of damage such as frayed cables. Advising the user of potential danger signs can result in problems being picked up before they can result in any danger. For example, if the power cable is frayed or the plug is cracked, users need to be advised not to use the appliance and report the fault to a supervisor.

This information can be put across, say by the use of a poster or in a memo. User checks are always carried out before the operation, and the results are generally not recorded unless a defect is identified.

This is a process of simply inspecting the appliance, the cable and the plug for any obvious signs of damage. At periodic intervals, the portable appliances are tested to measure that the degree of protection to ensure that it is adequate. At these intervals, a formal visual inspection is carried out and then followed by electrical testing.

Note the inside of the plug should be checked unless it is moulded or there is an unbroken seal covering the screws bad internal wiring or an unsuitable fuse would cause the item to be classed as dangerous. The tests an appliance are required to undergo will depend on the type of appliance, its electrical Class and subject to a risk assessment by the technician.

it may not be safe to perform a leakage current test which powers up the appliance, such as a grinder, if it can not be secured to a bench; an insulation resistance test may be a safe option.

This test shows the resistance offered by the earthing rods with the connection leads. Various testing instruments are available for earthing resistance tests. The earthing resistance should be less than 1Ω.

The equipment shall have a measured resistance of the protective earth circuit , or the earthing conductor of an extension cord or appliance cord set, which does not exceed 1Ω. Testing is performed using an ohmmeter or PAT tester;. The choice of which of the tests to use is at the operator's discretion as there is merit in each test for given situations.

Later model testers that are battery powered are limited to doing the "screen test". Older mains powered units can do all tests.

The purpose of the high current test is to simulate a fault condition: if a live part contacts the earthed metalwork, the earth conductor should be able to carry sufficient current to blow the fuse and render the appliance safe, without the earth conductor itself burning out.

On the other hand, some equipment especially IT equipment could be damaged by this test, as the earth connection is only for functional purposes and is not meant to be relied upon for safety. A leakage current test performed at rated voltage with values not exceeding 5mA for Class I appliances or 1mA for Class II appliances.

Alternatively, measured insulation resistance IR [9] values are not less than 1MΩ for Class I and Class II appliances at V d. Leakage current testing is performed using a PAT by applying a nominal voltage to the live conductors active and neutral of an appliance, and placing 0 volt reference on the earthed parts of a Class I appliance or the external metal parts of a Class II appliance;.

Insulation resistance testing is performed using an ohmmeter or portable appliance tester by applying a nominal voltage to the live conductors active and neutral of an appliance, and placing 0 volt reference on the earthed parts of a Class I appliance or the external metal parts of a Class II appliance;.

that are common in many modern power tools, computers, TVs etc. and therefore it can only test the appliance up to that point. Leakage testing does require the item being tested to be powered up thus meaning the item will switch on and operate. In countries where the sockets are polarised, polarity testing is a simple test that can be carried out using a polarity tester to determine whether the active and neutral of the plug end are correctly connected to the corresponding terminals at the socket end.

In the UK, as per BS , the phase 'Live' or 'Hot' cable should connect with the right hand side terminal of the socket if we face the socket outlet.

For residual-current devices RCDs , a type of earth-leakage circuit breaker ELCB , there are two test methods to be used:.

the TEST button referred to here is the test button on the RCD tester not the TEST button on the RCD itself. If the RCD is live, pressing the RCD's own test button should always trip the RCD. Specific microwave leakage testing was recommended for microwave ovens in the United Kingdom up until version 3 of the IET Code of Practice.

Eating healthy for less is about more than just the cost of food The pleasure of eating even the simplest of meals increases when you share it with other people. Eat healthy for less tip 1: Plan ahead Saving money on food involves revising your shopping habits, eliminating waste, and focusing on healthier choices—and that can require a little planning ahead.

Tip 2: Make smart food choices Try to eliminate unhealthy foods from your list, such as soda, cookies, crackers, prepackaged meals, and processed foods.

Can you eat organic on a budget? However, there can still be ways to enjoy the higher quality and stay within your budget: Opt for locally grown food. Tip 5: Stretch your money when you cook Preparing large portions of food to use over multiple meals can save you time and energy as well as money.

Make new meals from old ones Instead of throwing away leftovers or forgetting about them at the back of the fridge, get creative and use them to make new meals. Try looking for bagged vegetables that can be cooked in a microwave and topped with oil, spices, or cheese for an affordable meal or side. While you can invest in an inexpensive appliance such as a steamer, toaster oven, or hot plate to quickly and easily prepare meals, your best option may be a slow cooker or crock-pot.

A slow cooker can easily create healthy, one pot meals like soup, stew, and chili, with minimal clean up after. When slow cooked, even cheaper cuts of meat can taste delicious.

A slow cooker also uses less energy than a conventional oven and won't overheat your living space in the summer. Speak to a Licensed Therapist BetterHelp is an online therapy service that matches you to licensed, accredited therapists who can help with depression, anxiety, relationships, and more.

The key to smart, budget-friendly eating is to plan ahead. Use a weekly meal plan to create a master grocery list, and stick to it when you get to the store. Prioritize your food dollars for nutrient-rich vegetables, fruits, low-fat dairy, lean protein and whole grains. Prepare meals that include similar ingredients throughout the week to cut down on the amount of food you have to purchase.

Skip highly processed items and packaged snack foods, which can be very expensive; instead, prepare some healthy snacks ahead of time to use throughout the week. Plan around weekly sales. When planning your meals for the week, look for fresh produce, lean meats and low-fat dairy items on sale that week.

Check sale flyers and available coupons for additional savings. You also can compare national brands with store labels for the lowest prices. Shop for seasonal produce. They usually have the same nutritional quality, but check the labels for added sugars or salt.

Always buy your favorite meat when you see it on sale. You can prepare two or more meals at one time and enjoy the leftovers for lunch or dinner later in the week. Meat often is the most expensive ingredient in a recipe, so planning a meatless meal several times each week can also reduce your bill significantly.

Stock up on discounted grains and dry goods. You can even prepare dried beans, peas and lentils ahead of time and then freeze them so you have fiber- and protein-rich foods on hand at all times.

Reduce food waste. Americans throw away more than 38 million tons of food every year, according to a EPA study. Make the most of your food spending by cutting down on waste.

Plan to use highly perishable foods such as fish, greens, berries and fresh herbs early in the week. Save more hearty items for later in the week. Enjoy leftovers for lunch or create new meals with your leftovers. Consider organic foods — especially bought from local markets.

For those interested in organically grown produce, these lists can help you prioritize spending on organic products. And remember, the more you make at home, the less you have to eat out, which is both more nutritious and cost-effective.

Trial period benefits

Trial period benefits

A TWP work month begins when you start working and meet the monthly earnings threshold. Or if you work more than 80 hours a month in self-employment. However, the TWP earnings amount changes each year. Every month you work and earn above the monthly threshold counts as a part of your TWP.

Once you have worked the nine eligible months, the TWP ends, and the Extended Period of Eligibility begins. Note : Track your hours and earnings each month. Regardless of how much you earn, you should still report your work activity and earnings to the Social Security Administration.

The trial period will also start automatically if a self-employed person works 80 or more hours in a month, even if they do not exceed the income threshold. Note : You do not need to apply again or alert the Social Security Administration if several months pass without working and you want to work again.

If you are still within the 60 months, the SSA will automatically track your work activity or service when you file your required income reporting form. During the EPE, the SSA will evaluate your work and earnings to decide if you can work at the substantial gainful activity SGA level. The SSA may also perform a Work Activity Review of your case.

They will send you a Work Activity Report Form SSA to report any significant work activity changes. Extended Period of Eligibility EPE is another work incentive program. After completing the Trial Work Period, SSDI recipients enter a 3-year month Extended Period of Eligibility.

The EPE begins the month after your Trial Work Period ends and continues for 36 months, whether you are working or not. During this period, you can continue to receive full SSDI benefits. However, there are rules you must follow. For example, you must:. In addition, the SSA will continue to evaluate your monthly work hours and earnings.

The SSA uses the Substantial Gainful Activity SGA level to decide whether or not you are making a substantial wage. You will continue to receive benefits for all months your gross earnings are below the Substantial Gainful Activity level.

However, if you earn above the SGA level, you will not receive your benefits. The amount changes annually, so keep updated on the SGA earnings limits.

Note : The month SSA determines you are consistently earning over the SGA level, you will receive your SSDI benefits for that month and two more months. The SSA will automatically restart your benefits when your earnings fall below the SGA amount, and you are still in the month EPE period.

SSDI recipients do not need to apply for the Trial Work Period program. It automatically starts when you begin working and report income above the monthly earnings threshold. There is nothing for you to do other than report your income to the Social Security Administration.

Also Read: Prepare for Your Disability Interview With These 6 Questions. Or if you are self-employed and work over 80 hours in a month. There is nothing you need to do to initiate the TWP other than report your work activity and earnings. Social Security Income recipients are not eligible for the Trial Work Period program.

However, the Social Security Administration has other work incentives for SSI recipients. Visit the SSA website for more information about SSI work incentives. As part of the agreement to receive Social Security Disability benefits, you agree to inform the SSA of any income, regardless if it is earned or unearned.

If self-employed, you are required to report the hours you work and your profit after business expenses. It is often referred to as an orientation or training period prior to when the new hire is considered a permanent employee. Probationary periods typically last around 90 days, with some as short as 30 days and some as long as six months.

This time frame varies based on the training required for the position. Many employers will delay health insurance and other employee benefits until after the probationary period has ended. At the end of this mutually agreed-upon probationary period, the employer can decide to hire the new employee permanently or let them go.

The onboarding process can be greatly improved by implementing a probationary period for employees. Providing sufficient training, support, and clear expectations helps to boost confidence, reduce anxiety, and increase the likelihood of retaining new skills effectively.

This results in increased productivity and performance, less need for individual management in the long run, and a more positive employee experience. As probationary periods for employees are temporary, health insurance and other employee benefits are typically not offered until a formal decision has been made.

This saves you on expenses that these benefits incur until you decide whether a certain employee is a good fit.

Some employers even offer a lower salary for the probationary period, which can then be increased upon deciding to hire the employee permanently. Probationary periods for employees offer employers the opportunity to receive honest feedback from new members of the team.

These situations can be learning experiences, encouraging you to evaluate for potential improvements. Then, you can make adjustments accordingly. Starting a new job can be overwhelming, leading to anxiety and underperformance in an otherwise well-qualified employee.

Knowing what your expectations are from the start helps to mitigate this pressure, allowing for the training period to go more smoothly and giving you a better idea of their capabilities as permanent hires. Implementing probationary periods for employees gives new hires a better chance of success, as expectations are clear from day one.

They can then learn all they need to perform their job effectively without the unnecessary anxiety and stress that may result from unclear guidance. Probationary period agreements for new employees should clearly state the goals and objectives of the orientation and training periods.

Probationary periods decrease your need for the excessive documentation that is often required for terminations, as the agreement clearly stated that the employee would be considered on a temporary basis. This ultimately results in less work for you, as well as less confusion for the employee.

Employment law penalties can result in serious and expensive consequences. On a separate note, probationary periods that vary between employees are subject to being called out for discrimination.

Ensuring that every new hire gets the same probationary agreement is essential to avoid this. Although, an exception to this would be if you hire an employee with a disability that requires specific accommodation. It could be argued that while probationary periods for employees set clear expectations from the start, they might also increase the pressure to perform to a higher standard.

If a new hire suspects that their position is in jeopardy from the very beginning, it could result in anxiety or un necessary stress. Depending on the employee, this may lead to decreased performance, causing you to discount them as an asset to your organization.

Conversely, employees may perform at a higher level, in the beginning, only to relax back to a mediocre performance level once they feel their position is secure.

Bringing new hires onboard under temporary conditions may have a less-than-desirable impact on their morale. This can be attributed to the feeling of insecurity in their position, the above-mentioned increased pressure to perform, or simply feeling like an outsider in a pre-established community of permanent workers.

Making new hires feel like part of a team has a positive effect on their performance, as well as increasing the likelihood of job satisfaction.

SSDI recipients are entitled to a nine-month trial work period without risking their SSDI benefits during a month rolling period. There is no limit on the If you have Medicare as a result of receiving SSDI, that coverage can continue for up to seven years and nine months after your trial work It is important to note that your trial work period can start even prior to being approved for Social Security disability benefits. Your nine months start

Download Fetch Rewards on your phone. Use my referral code AJ3YQ. While prices may vary depending on your location or grocery store, these are all generally cheap groceries that any store will carry. You will find that they are basic foods that are very versatile and can be used for multiple meals.

I have included real prices in my area at either Walmart or Aldi. Please do not get hung up on prices if yours are higher. This list will still be a cheap grocery list compared to other foods. This is meant to help you gain inspiration to build a frugal meal plan around budget friendly foods.

Fresh fruit can often be expensive, but I find a bag of apples is consistently fairly cheap. Plus they can be used in so many ways. They can be eaten plain for a snack, stewed for a dessert or side dish, or eaten for breakfast in a baked apple oatmeal.

Bananas are another great cheap fruit. You can get an entire bunch for just a couple of dollars. They are perfect for eating on their own, cut up in yogurt or cereal, with peanut butter, or in a smoothie.

A bag of oranges is another inexpensive fruit just about year round. Sometimes cuties are cheaper and sometimes the large oranges are. Check the sales before purchasing to get your best option. After apples and bananas, I look for fruit that is on sale or the lowest cost per ounce.

This week that is pineapple for me. It may be different for you depending on the time of year and your location. Applesauce is a great inexpensive snack to keep on hand. You can get a large container for cheap and it feeds a lot of mouths.

Stay away from the squeeze pouches if you are on a budget. Although they are very convenient, they are much more expensive per ounce than the large jars. Remember that convenience costs money.

A bag of carrots is incredibly cheap and an essential vegetable to keep on hand. It is the base for many soups and sauces. It also is a cheap side dish and a great snack. Onions are another cheap grocery staple to always have in the pantry.

They add flavor to just about every dish. I find a bag of onions to be more economical than loose. I buy a 10 lb bag of potatoes every two weeks. Not only are they a favorite at my house, they are incredibly cheap and versatile. When prioritizing what foods to buy with my grocery budget, potatoes are at the top of my list.

READ: 16 ways to use leftover baked potatoes. Although they aren't as cheap as white potatoes, sweet potatoes are still inexpensive. I love baking them, stuffing them with bbq, making sweet potato fries, or using them in a hash.

There's a reason peasant food included cabbage and lots of it. It's so cheap and there is so much you can do with it. Put it in vegetable soup , boil it , make an Italian ground beef and cabbage skillet , use it in a cabbage roll casserole , sauté it, or make a slaw. One cabbage can stretch for a couple of meals and it is packed with nutrition.

They are one of the most economical vegetables in the grocery store and great for snacking or using in salads. A bunch of celery is also a great versatile vegetable to buy. Use it in soups, casseroles, or stir fry. It is also a cheap snack to cut up at the beginning of the week to use for dipping in homemade sour cream dip or slathering in peanut butter.

If you have ever had a garden, you know how squash grows like crazy from one single plant. That is one reason it is so cheap in the store.

Squash is excellent in the summer sautéd, fried, grilled, in a stir fry, or in a casserole. Zucchini is an excellent cheap nutritious vegetable in the summer.

Sauté it, fry it, make stuffed zucchini boats ,. Corn in the summer is dirt cheap. In the summer when fresh corn is not readily available and inexpensive, frozen corn is very cheap as well. Frozen peas should be a staple of every kitchen. Throw them in a pasta, put them in a soup, fried rice, or as an inexpensive side dish.

I love frozen peas! Fresh broccoli is fairly inexpensive, but frozen broccoli is even cheaper. The best part is that the broccoli is also already chopped for you which makes it super convenient.

Roast it, use it in a stir fry, or make broccoli cheddar soup. Home What to Buy The Ultimate Budget Grocery List to Help You Save Money. Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links. Grocery prices have risen by Staple pantry items such as eggs, bread, and butter have been hit the hardest.

This creates a foundation for you to build upon with other ingredients. All-purpose flour is a go-to type of flour that can be used in multiple recipes and can even be used as bread flour in a pinch. I regularly use canned tomatoes to make my Dump-and-Bake Salsa Chicken recipe. Canned chickpeas can be used straight away, whereas dried chickpeas need to be prepared by soaking them overnight so they can expand and soften.

Extra virgin olive oil is the least processed type, meaning it retains its vitamins and antioxidants, making it a healthier oil overall. It can be used for all types of cooking as well as drizzling, dipping, seasoning, and marinating, and is great for DIY salad dressings as an alternative to pricey bottled dressings.

Lentils are great for stews, soups, curries, and salads. Salt is a must-have for a well-stocked pantry. Beyond sprinkling it on just about everything, you can use it for DIY seasoning on meat and vegetables, preserving items, and pickling although pickling salt is recommended for the latter, which can be used as table salt if you want.

Buying salt in bulk will save you money, and you can also use it around the house for getting stains out of coffee cups and pots, sanitizing cutting boards, and for restoring worn sponges just soak them in salt and water overnight.

Adding pepper to your recipes can transform the taste. Another addition to your budget grocery list is apple cider vinegar, which can be used in numerous recipes and can be used for cleaning up afterward.

I use it in many of my recipes including my Roasted Chicken Breast with Molasses and Apples and my Cowboy Baked Beans. Or, combine it with olive oil for an easy salad dressing or marinade. Chicken stock is a versatile and cheap pantry item that can be used to create sauces, gravy, chicken stew, and soups.

To save some cash, consider baking your own bread! My dinner rolls and easy homemade bread are two great beginner bread recipes to get you started. Sugar is another must-have for your budget grocery list.

When considering which budget-friendly groceries to buy, stick to produce that can be used in multiple ways. At the time, we were broke, living off not quite full-time entry-level jobs that paid just enough to cover our monthly expenses without dipping into the savings account we built from wedding gifts.

It seemed impossible. But if we were going to survive without bleeding out our savings, we had to find a way. Making a grocery budget was the easy part. Keeping it was the hard part. First, we pinky-swore each other we would do everything we possibly could to keep this budget — even if it meant eating peanut butter sandwiches every day for lunch.

Next, I made it my part-time job to learn how to save money and eat well. I learned so much those first few months, and today I want to share some of those tips with you. Eating well on a tight budget is totally possible!

Stay focused, get creative, and trust that you CAN save money and eat healthy. First of all, I want to clarify that this grocery budget was for two people, and it was several years ago. Saving money and eating healthy is not a competition.

Just do your best with what you have. They made all the difference, and they will help you save the most money possible in this season. Eating on this tight a budget was hard, but sometimes life is hard and we can do hard things. We worked hard, got out of that season, and were eventually able to increase our grocery budget.

We still keep it pretty tight for how well we eat and how many meals we eat at home nearly all of them. But during those really tight years, we approached our budget like a challenge, not like a burden. Attitude makes all the difference.

This was not the season to eat what we were craving. This was not the season for steak or even hamburgers. Rather, we made a list a frugal recipes we could afford to eat regularly, and we stuck to those.

So I tried a lot of things, substituted a lot of ingredients, and made decent food. It worked for us.

Rotisserie Chickens are great for multiple meal breakdowns. Canned Tuna & Chicken also go a long way. Rice & various beans are versatile.
