Seriously, amazing job!!!!!! Thanks so much Shelby! and 3 how are your kids getting so big?? And IDONTKNOW how they got so big!!

Thanks Laura! I love every bit of your labor of love. You guys worked so hard. Did you do that all with babies around? Or was it just before?

I too hate the idea of cluttering it with anything, but I despise thinking on how much dust is collecting up there. I digress.. Your kitchen is helping. They look great! Aw thanks so much Karissa! We were staying with my Dad while we did the bulk of the kitchen reno, so we abused the free babysitting services : When I was researching I saw that some people built extra cabinets above their existing ones to close it in?

Our kitchen could really use some touchups. We discovered that they were only held on by tiny little nails, so one bored afternoon my husband and I decided to rip them all off. It made the kitchen look so much better! But I hear yah on the cabinet tops just becoming junk collectors.

Thanks Kara! Your new layout compared to the old was such a good idea. Your open shelving is so attractive and… seriously, everything looks lovely! Thanks so much Elisabeth! That open shelving was really easy to make and cost SO little compared to a cabinet, win win! What an absolutely beautiful transformation!

I love that your counters are formica—so much more affordable and looks gorgeous! Thanks so much Amy! Gorgeous transformation!!!

I absolutely love your backsplash. We just call it kitchen art now. And thank you! i really like the tile may i ask what brand or where you got it from? would love to have this in my kitchen.

The tile is San Marco Viva Linen. I love the look of it, my only caution would be that it looks dirty QUICK. How do you feel about it in your shower? I love it in our shower! Mic drop! Seriously gorgeous! Thanks for sharing! Your kitchen looks FANTASTIC! Thanks so much for sharing it with us this week on the Monday Funday Party!

First off. I am so jealous! Second, I am so excited for you because that kitchen is a dream! I am so impressed with all that was done. Talk about a total transformation! In love with it! First, second, and third THANK YOU! This is the exact kitchen I plan on doing in our remodel.

Can you please share the cost of the counters and cabinets. It truly would be extremely helpful in convincing my husband to use ikea cabinets :. Hi Tiffany! So if you have a straightforward kitchen with no weird angles ours has so many angles! then Ikea is totally the way to go ;.

Your kitchen looks great. I love the open shelving next to the window. The layout really seems to work. Thanks so much Heather!

Your kitchen is unbelievable! I love the color and all the finishes. Those floors are beautiful. Amazing job! Thank you SO much Natalie! Well, call me super impressed! Your kitchen is gorgeous, functional, and I am amazed you did this!

High five! Formica really has come a long way. I really like those counter tops! Heck, I like ALL of your kitchen. Thank you so much for stating where you found the cabinet pulls. I am renovating the master bath and replacing the cabinet pulls.

Very hard to find pulls that size. Most cup pulls are that size, but I like the ones you chose because they are not rounded — more streamlined. Not sure what size they are, but at least I can fill in the old holes and these pulls will cover the fill in.

Aw thanks Julie : They HAVE come a long way! And… if you like the hardware, you can order it from here super cheap compared to stores one of the kitchen companies here recommended them to us but shipping was just too much to Canada, and they come in a bunch of different sizes, so you might be able to find your specific size!

This is gorgeous and exactly what I am hoping to do with my kitchen. Aw thanks so much Grace! Looking forward to checking the party out! Looks fabulous! I am loving the counter tops and the open dishes… where did you get the lovely white dishes? Aw thank you so much Jacqueline, I appreciate you stopping by : The dishes area actually from Ikea!

You can find them here. Thank you Sarah! Wow Colleen, your kitchen is gorgeous! I will be featuring your makeover this Wednesday night at 9 pm CST at On Display Thursday! Thanks for sharing it with us! Thanks so much Keisha! When we lived in our apartment that kitchen was super dark too.

This is such a welcome change! This is truly an amazing renovation—I LOVE it! They are beautiful! Thanks so much for linking up at Think and Make Thursdays. I am featuring you tomorrow! Challenging, but so fun! Thanks so much Tasha!

Twins are the best, definitely challenging but so worth it : Your girls are so cute! I am in awe of what difference! Simply stunning. Thanks so much Maria! Hi Jocelyn! Thank-you Rebekah! Your wedding budget is mega impressive :. Love the new kitchen! May I ask what your wall color is? I love the idea of white but would like maybe a light grey for the walls then.

Thanks Leanna! The wall colour is a custom colour, I can track down the mix tomorrow for you : Thanks for taking the time to comment! Oh my gosh! That is absolutely stunning! I love the marble on the counters, I think that stands out first…at least to me, aside from a better layout and space.

You have done an amazing and wonderful job! Hummm, maybe its time for our kitchen to be redone….. Happy Thanksgiving! Nancy wildoakdesigns. Thanks so much Nancy! The countertops are actually laminate believe it or not!

This is it! I do have a few questions about your Ikea cabinets — how well do they hold up? I am also curious about the size of your kitchen and your budget.

If you ever have time I would appreciate an email with a little more detail. Thank you in advance! Again, beautiful job on your kitchen — I am completely jealous!

Thanks so much Stephanie! Love love love your kitchen! Thanks so much Meaghan! That sounds like a total dream. I will shoot you an email with all the budget information I have as well as sources etc!

Love, love, love your kitchen. Is there anyway you could possibly tell me all the colors that you used. Wall color, cabinet color, back splash color etc…. Thank you. Thanks so much Lynn! Thanks so much Cassie! We used San Marco Tile in Viva Linen.

And yes, having an in-cupbaord bin drawer is my favourite thing about our new kitchen. In fact, when conducting a house tour I need to stop myself from bringing guests to look at that first!

Thanks so much Nods! I love when people ask where to put their garbage so I can rave about it :. Colleen, your kitchen came out beautifully and I am so inspired by it!! Your experience sounds so positive with them, thank you for that feedback!

Your countertops are gorgeous, what a fabulous choice to keep within your budget and still get a beautiful kitchen. Love your backsplash, lighting, floor tile, open shelves!! I just helped my sister in law plan her basement suite kitchen cabinets out with them last week too!

Thanks so much Tabitha! We used San Marco Tile in Viva Linen on the flooring. The backsplash is from home depot! kitchen looks great and I esp love the open shelves! I did not see the tutorial for them? please direct me to this diy project. thanks for sharing and congrats again on your beautiful kitchen remodel!

Thanks so much Candace! Thanks Julie! My goodness this kitchen remodel is beautiful! I am designing mine at the moment and I love how yours turned out. We must have similar taste because we both have the same kenmore fridge!

Anyways, great job and thanks for the inspiration. Thanks so much Crystal! I love that fridge so much! In love with this and possibly you too! Great job! I was wondering what lighting you decided on for over your table? Im looking for a light to go above my table that would coordinate with my kitchen lighting and style like yours.

Aw thanks Abi! We actually bought a non matching light from Ikea, but I love it just the same. I am absolutely IN LOVE with this in every way! It is beautiful. We recently bought a very old house and are redoing everything. The kitchen, which I thought was turning out great has actually become the opposite of what I wanted!

I have so many changes I want to make and I definitely NEED these countertop. We have a black granite right now but soapstone is what I have my heart on however completely out of my budget especially after already getting the granite where did you find this and who installed?

Just at a home depot? Curious how much a difference it made in price. We have an awkward layout in our kitchen since it was such an old home and we converted the 6×8 kitchen into a 24×10 using the original dining room as the largest part of the now kitchen.

I only have a short area on one side of my corner sink where I feel the open shelves should go! Are those from ikea?! I love the floors too. I just want to copy and paste it into my house lol. Thanks so much Cindy!

I would love to have granite countertops one day, but am loving these in the meantime! Open shelving has been a dream for us. The brackets are ikea and we used cedar deck boards, stained for the wood shelves.

Yes, definitely! Definitely good bang for your buck. Using a backsplash with a laminate counter top looks so much nicer! Your choice of face plates was spot on. I replaced all my switches with the paddle style and used the screwless face plates. Here's how to install one over wainscoting.

It's the most simple way to display art on your walls without leaving any holes. While open-to-the-outdoors exterior spaces are great, a screened-in porch can boost usefulness in refreshing ways.

Screens help to keep out critters and insects, which may make using a space on warm-weather days even easier, and offer minimal, yet welcome, privacy. And, a few new screens can prompt a redo of other accents and finishes—soft shades to further block views and sun, a light fixture and ceiling fan to extend hours of use, and a refinished floor surface to withstand foot traffic.

Think about those things that fluster you on a daily basis: one of them is probably a closet. But a simple DIY closet makeover can add both beauty and function to this daily-use space. Start by emptying the closet and refinishing the interior walls with a colorful interplay of patterns and hues—here, wallpaper on the lower half, bright yellow on the top.

Choose functional pieces that offer a range of storage options, including hanging rods, shelves, open storage, and drawers or baskets. To save space, think about eliminating doors for soft repurposed window treatments.

Kitchen cabinets can be expensive, and redoing them is often a labor-intensive project that can quickly balloon in costs. One easy way to give your kitchen a kitchen cabinet makeover? Remove upper cabinet doors for airy, open shelving that pops.

Bonus: The project will also force you to streamline the stuff you have inside those cabinets. Fill and sand hinge holes and paint a bright white to open up the space even more.

Learn how to convert kitchen cabinets to open shelving. Even if you can't take down a wall, you can connect rooms such as kitchens and dining rooms to one another by using interior windows or pass-throughs.

You'll have to have a structural engineer check your support beams to see what kind of a structure you need to keep or work around. Think about connecting countertops on either side for convenience and flexibility, too.

This type of home makeover project will take some time, but it is so worth it. Access to exterior spaces can increase both your enjoyment and your use of them. And you may have a room—say a family space or kitchen—that would greatly benefit from a connection to your yard.

If you have a large expanse of wall space, consider adding a single or double door—a slider saves space, one that opens outward keeps from intruding into the room.

Walkout basements are other great opportunities to install a sliding patio door. Curb appeal can never be discounted as a way to improve a home, and a mini garage remodel is easy enough with a new garage door.

Good, mid-range doors can typically be painted to match existing color palettes, with details and reveals, too. Look into the different garage door styles before deciding on your final garage remodel plans.

Tired and worn fireplace fronts can make the rest of any carefully coordinated room feel outdated. But a new fireplace front isn't terribly difficult or expensive. Most brick will take a coat of paint fairly well, and off-the-shelf tiles can cover a fireplace face, too.

Make sure any materials you place to use in your fireplace remodel are fire-resistant and are up to your municipality's code.

It won't be long until you have your dream fireplace. There are a variety of materials—tile, granite, even tin to name a few—that are backsplash appropriate. Which backsplash idea you choose for your mini kitchen makeover depends on your decor and your aesthetics.

If you're keeping the countertop, make sure you can create a seamless connection to the kitchen backsplash. New tile and a few extra amenities can make a stand-alone shower feel brand-new.

If you're keeping the faucet, you can probably complete the project yourself with some solid tile-and-grouting skills. Use tile to build a shower bench, too, which ensures it's waterproof. A built-in recessed wall shelf can hold all your bottles, soaps, and loofas.

We love how this sleek white stove hood holds its own above a subway tile backsplash but doesn't compete with the kitchen's more interesting features, like the dark island and exposed brick beam.

Reynal has been incorporating more and more color into her clients' homes. Look for eye-catching wallpaper or paint all of the cabinetry in your favorite hue. You can also opt for a smaller color commitment, such as choosing a contrasting wood finish for the island. Creative backsplashes are a great way to add an extra pop of personality to your space, whether you prefer a crisp, clean look made with quartz or something more adventurous, like a colorful glass tile.

It's no secret that white marble is a sought-after kitchen stone, but it's also hard to maintain. Reynal has found a similar alternative in quartz. While Reynal says that a natural stone countertop adds a living original element to the kitchen, engineered quartz options are a durable and attractive alternative.

If you want the best of both, Reynal suggests using quartz on the perimeter countertops and a natural stone on the island in a coordinating or contrasting color. Are you altering your existing space to accommodate an open floor plan?

If so, think about how you want your new kitchen to function. If your kitchen is where your family congregates and eats, then a large kitchen island with seating is necessary.

On the other hand, if you want your dining space to be regularly utilized, you should think twice before spending time and money on a kitchen eatery. Another major consideration is the layout of both your dining room and kitchen.

The flow here should feel complementary and connected versus disjointed and incongruous. Another game changer in the kitchen is panel-ready appliances, which are available through most appliance companies these days. Gone are the days of closed-off kitchens.

In order to keep the kitchen feeling like it's part of the rest of the home, Reynal suggests using the same flooring as the surrounding living areas to create a unified look. However, there are opportunities where a different flooring is preferable in a kitchen.

This is also an opportunity to add a texture or pattern to the floors that tie the rest of the design scheme together.

The ceiling is often overlooked, but Reynal has some ideas for bringing it to life. When dealing with a tight space, but still have room for a table, Reynal says to incorporate a banquette into the kitchen.

She says, "The banquette can be under a window or in a corner or even as an architectural divider to separate an open plan kitchen from the living area. Use limited data to select advertising. Create profiles for personalised advertising.

Whether you're working with a small kitchen space or you want to create another vignette to meet your family's dining needs, consider building out a high-functioning seating nook. You can build a corner seating fixture into the existing space or simply add a movable corner sectional.

From there, a round table that fits snugly into the area will provide you with a new dining area. Reynal is big on lighting, and she recommends having a mix of styles within your space. Under-cabinet lighting is also a must. If you want cabinetry, weigh all of your options.

Do all-opaque iterations work for you? Or would a few glass-front options—which might help kids navigate the space better or allow you to show off your prized china collection—elevate the space?

Consider the pros accessibility and aesthetics and the cons finger smudges and constant curation before you decide, but note that see-through "window" cabinets could be exactly what your existing space is missing. This is especially important when it comes to the more utilitarian components of your kitchen, including your stove hood.

And, since you're "remodeling" your home on your own, you won't have to worry about staying six feet away from your contractor. Want to flex your DIY muscle, but have no idea where to start? Look no further than these 25 home reno ideas. We tapped a handful of designers and bloggers to share their favorite home renovation projects that you can do on your own.

We know that not everyone is a DIY professional, so the list below features ideas for every comfort level. From building your own barn door to reviving your space with a fresh coat of paint, there's bound to be something here you feel confident to take on all by yourself or at least with your bubble.

Turns out, a home renovation or at least a project that feels like one is a lot easier than you'd think. All you really need are some supplies, patience, and lots of creativity.

Courtesy of Murray Khouri Interior Design. Want to revitalize your hardwood floors without covering them with yet another area rug? Go ahead and embrace your artistic side. But, as we like to tell our clients: More is more.

According to Chicago-based designer Brooke Lang , the devil lies in the decor details. If you want to focus on those smaller touches, add some leafy greens to unexpected places. The mirror helps bounce light around, while introducing a natural element.

Make no mistake, we love wallpaper as much as the next person. But, unless you're working with an easy peel-and-stick option, applying it a room can be a complete pain. Thanks to Lang's DIY projec t, you can have the best of both worlds.

In this example, we used a gold-leaf paint to achieve the same look as a wallpaper. It ended up being a fraction of the cost and a little time over the weekend!

If your cabinets are overdue for a major upgrade, but you're not ready to replace them altogether, consider swapping out the hardware. This idea is great for rentals.

Simply reattach your older knobs and pulls when your lease is up, and your landlord will have no idea you made this tweak. If the past year has taught us anything, it's that a home office is a necessary addition to any space.

But, since most of us didn't have "private workspace" on our real-estate wish lists, there's a good chance many people are clocking in from their kitchen counter. If you want to create the illusion of a home office without going through the hassle of a formal addition, consider transforming one of your favorite nooks and crannies.

All you have to do is find some empty space to get creative. Whether you have an attic you can covert, like this fun office, or even an awkward unused corner of your home, you can set up for business pretty much anywhere.

If you're dipping your toes into the DIY world for the very first time, take things slow by reimagining your room with a fresh coat of paint.

It's amazing how much influence this one tweak can have on your space. It's not a pure black because it has a blue undertone, but it's [still] dramatic and transformative. I kept the rest of the decor light for added contrast and brightness. Another easy way to transform your home?

Add a breakfast nook to your kitchen. The L-shaped banquette not only maximizes seating around the bistro table, but it also offers storage, which to some can feel life-saving. While we're on the topic of kitchens, we give you full permission to revive your lackluster cabinets.

One way to level up your kitchen is with open shelving. Whether you source materials through your local hardware store or spring for finished products from brands like Semihandmade , this tip enables you to show off your covetable cookware and styling skills.

Admit it: When you think about built-ins, you envision a difficult, time-consuming undertaking. But, according to Torres, this DIY project is easier and more cost-effective than you think. Torres recommends adding a trim to the top of your bookcase or painting them the same color as your walls.

Either way, you'll wind up with storage that packs a punch. Courtesy of Christina Kim Design; Photographed by Raquel Langworthy. Looking for a pseudo home renovation that defies gravity? Take a cue from designer Christina Kim. Grab one-foot by six-foot tongue-and-groove planks in your favorite material — pine and white oak work great.

Plan to run the boards perpendicular to the joists so you have something to nail into. You can even leave the boards unfinished for a warm modern look — especially in casual spaces like basements.

We know that a flight of stairs serves a practical purpose — you know, to transport you from one floor to another — but, this feature isn't always the most exciting.

If you're looking to spice up your steps without starting from scratch, interior designer Nicole White suggests that you consider adding an unexpected coat of paint. I also hated how often we tossed paint samples after client presentations, so I decided to use a few of those sample colors to make [the steps into a] piece of art.

It's an easy faux renovation that virtually anyone can achieve. It doesn't matter if you're having dinner with your pod or receiving a special delivery, the entryway is the first thing all of your guests will see. So, why not make it look good? If you're looking for a rookie-friendly way to transform your foyer, EQ3's Liana Thomson recommends doubling down on accessories.

Go a step further by [illuminating] the space with a plug-in pendant — no electrician required. Speaking of lighting, why not refresh every pendant in your home? Wish your home had charming features like crown molding along the ceilings?

Well, with a little elbow grease, it can. To achieve the look, pick up wooden or styrofoam molding planks , add a generous amount of compound mud , and adhere them to the ceiling by nailing them in. You'll have a home that's packed with beautiful, architectural details in no time.
